The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is taking steps to recruit workers from low-income communities to staff the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) as part of a larger initiative to boost local employment. Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the National Nutrition Agency, revealed that at least 30% of the personnel in each SPPG unit will be selected from households in the first and second economic deciles. This move is in line with the President’s directive to ensure that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program not only provides meals but also creates job opportunities. With the establishment of 2,378 SPPG units in partnership with 6,076 local economic institutions, including cooperatives, village-owned enterprises, and MSMEs, the program has engaged 93,572 volunteers from the local communities. Currently, the MBG Program has benefitted a total of 7,444,238 individuals nationwide, including students from various educational levels, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, and students of People’s School. To further expand the program’s reach, BGN plans to launch an additional 2,401 SPPG units in the next ten days, bringing the total to 4,788 operational units and serving an estimated 15 million beneficiaries across the country.
