The Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development (Wamendukbangga), Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, emphasized the importance of parents staying updated on their children’s interests and promoting physical activities together to prevent addiction to games and gadgets. Isyana shared this during the Double Check discussion on The Role of Family Development in Welcoming a Golden Indonesia 2045 event, organized by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) and Gempita in Jakarta. She encouraged parents to continually learn and familiarize themselves with current online applications as children tend to learn faster. Isyana highlighted the natural inclination of children towards seeking ‘cheap dopamine’ through social media scrolling or online games, leading to potential addiction. She emphasized the importance of sports, sunlight, and outdoor activities in providing dopamine, highlighting that the human body is designed for movement.
In a previous discussion led by the Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Veronica Tan, the importance of providing safe spaces for children was highlighted through the Ruang Bersama Indonesia (RBI) program. RBI aims to create inclusive spaces where women, children, and communities can be empowered, engaged in traditional and creative games, sports, and stay away from gadget addiction. Through initiatives like RBI, Veronica hopes to foster creativity and well-being among children while keeping them away from the dangers of excessive gadget use.
