Pekanbaru Customs and Riau Sumatera Barat Regional Office (Kanwil) collaborated with the Siak Police to thwart an attempt to smuggle 2,600 grams of sabu-sabu narcotics originating from Muar, Malaysia. The incident took place in Kampung Rempak, Siak District, Siak Regency on Saturday, December 21, 2024, around 00.10 WIB. Two suspects with initials S and H were apprehended during the operation. According to Tommy Hutomo, the Head of the Pekanbaru Customs Office, drug enforcement is part of Customs’ efforts to secure Indonesia from dangerous substances. The effective coordination between Customs and the Siak Police in combating narcotics circulation was crucial to the success of the operation. The collaboration between Customs, the police, and other law enforcement agencies, supported by community involvement, aims to eradicate narcotics and dangerous goods from the root to protect society. Customs functions as a community protector, takes an active role in preventing drug abuse and trafficking, and strives for a drug-free Indonesia.
