Indonesia’s National Children’s Day holds a significant meaning beyond just an annual celebration. President Prabowo Subianto aims to utilize this occasion as a driving force for tangible actions in securing a brighter future for the country’s children. The government, under the guidance of Dedek Prayudi, a Senior Expert at the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), has introduced three major programs focused on enhancing the well-being of children. These programs include Nutritious Free Meals (MBG), Free Health Checkups (CKG), and School Revitalization.
MBG, also known as Makan Bergizi Gratis, goes beyond simply feeding children – it prioritizes providing them with essential daily nutrition. Statistics from the Ministry of Health reveal that a significant portion (60%) of school-aged children attend school on an empty stomach, impacting their focus and overall well-being. The program aims to combat issues like iron deficiency anemia, which can lead to a decline in IQ levels. Uki emphasized the importance of MBG in delivering crucial nutrients like iron for children’s growth and development.
In addition to MBG, the government is implementing Free Health Checkups for students, covering various health aspects such as height, weight, vision, hearing, tuberculosis, and mental health. This initiative is in line with the constitutional rights of citizens, including children, to access healthcare services and maintain good health. The Free Health Checkup program serves as a preventive measure to detect health issues early on, without any cost to the beneficiaries.
Another significant initiative focused on children is the School Revitalization Program, targeting the renovation of 11,440 schools across Indonesia. This program, set to begin in early 2025, addresses the urgent need to improve learning facilities in public and private schools, especially in underdeveloped and remote areas. President Prabowo has allocated substantial funding from the national budget to support this initiative, emphasizing the importance of providing a conducive and safe learning environment for students.
Uki highlighted the dire conditions of many schools, with a significant number experiencing moderate to severe structural damage. This program prioritizes schools in the most critical condition, ensuring that students have access to proper facilities that promote their safety, dignity, and overall well-being. By addressing issues like damaged infrastructure and inadequate facilities, the School Revitalization Program aims to create a conducive learning environment for all students across the country.
