Prabowo Emphasizes Worker Prioritization in U.S. Tariff Talks

President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized that Indonesia’s negotiations with the United States to lower import tariffs from 32% to 19% were careful and calculated. He stated that the main objective was to safeguard the interests of the Indonesian people, especially workers. Prabowo expressed his commitment to protecting the workers during negotiations held at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Wednesday (July 16). Despite the challenges faced, Indonesia maintained a firm stance throughout the talks, with Prabowo highlighting the importance of ensuring the protection of workers. The president also expressed optimism about Indonesia’s robust and resilient economy, which is well-prepared to withstand global uncertainties and trade tensions. Describing the negotiations as tough yet productive, Prabowo mentioned that a mutual understanding was reached with the U.S. on strategic interests, resulting in a reduction of tariffs to 19%. President Trump confirmed the trade agreement, announcing the tariff cut on Indonesian goods.
