French President Emmanuel Macron recently visited Indonesia to strengthen the partnership between the two countries. Macron emphasized that the friendship between Indonesia and France goes beyond symbolism and entails a genuine and robust cooperation. During his visit, President Prabowo Subianto warmly welcomed Macron at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. Macron expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the opportunity to enhance the strategic partnership between the two nations, particularly in fields such as economy, technology, security, and culture.
Indonesia and France have maintained diplomatic relations for 75 years, with significant advancements in the past decade. Macron acknowledged Indonesia’s role in preserving regional stability in the Indo-Pacific region and emphasized progress in bilateral defense cooperation, renewable energy, transportation, and energy transition agenda. Cultural collaboration was also a focal point for Macron, leading to the signing of a cultural agreement at the Borobudur Temple complex as a symbolic gesture of the growing friendship between both countries. Macron expressed appreciation to President Prabowo for the warm welcome and expressed optimism for continued joint efforts during his official two-day visit to Indonesia.
